Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green Star in ‘Boston Blue,’ New ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff
Donnie Wahlberg is stepping back into familiar territory as he headlines Boston Blue, the newly announced spinoff of CBS’s long-running police drama Blue Bloods. Joining him is Star Trek: Discovery alum Sonequa Martin-Green, who co-stars in the series.
Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he leaves New York behind and takes on a new chapter in Boston law enforcement. The series pairs Danny with a new partner, played by Martin-Green, a confident and driven detective whose background and approach to policing contrast with Danny’s old-school instincts. Together, the two navigate complex cases while adjusting to the unique challenges of policing in Boston.
While Blue Bloods built its legacy around the Reagan family and their deep roots in the NYPD, Boston Blue shifts the focus to a new city, a new dynamic, and fresh perspectives on law enforcement, while still maintaining the grounded, character-driven storytelling fans expect from the franchise.
Wahlberg, who portrayed Danny Reagan for more than a decade, also serves as an executive producer on the spinoff. Martin-Green’s casting adds a strong new presence to the series, marking her return to network television in a leading role.
Boston Blue is expected to expand the Blue Bloods universe while standing on its own, appealing to longtime fans and new viewers alike.
