Luke Grimes Reveals He Hasn’t Spoken to Kevin Costner Since ‘Yellowstone’ Ended

The world of Yellowstone continues to make headlines, even after the hit Western drama came to an end. Now, Luke Grimes has revealed that he has not spoken to Kevin Costner since they stopped working together on the popular series, offering a new look at where the former co-stars stand today.

Grimes, who portrayed Kayce Dutton, the youngest son of Costner’s John Dutton, addressed their relationship in a recent interview with USA Today. Despite playing father and son for several seasons, the actors have not stayed in touch since Costner’s departure from the show in 2024.

However, Grimes made it clear that their lack of communication should not be mistaken for a personal feud.

“I haven’t talked to Kevin since we stopped working together. Not for any reason other than we’re busy guys and life moves on,” Grimes explained.

Could Kevin Costner Return to the ‘Yellowstone’ Universe?

Grimes was also asked about the possibility of Costner making an appearance in Marshals, the CBS spinoff that continues Kayce Dutton’s story after the events of Yellowstone.

Although Grimes admitted that seeing Costner return would be interesting, he expressed doubt that such a reunion would happen.

“If there was a flashback, I would probably rather it be with Monica [Kelsey Asbille] than John,” he said, explaining that a moment involving Kayce’s wife could carry greater emotional significance for his character.

Monica played a central role in Kayce’s life throughout Yellowstone, and her relationship with him was one of the series’ most important storylines. Grimes’ comments suggest that, if the opportunity arose, he would prefer to revisit that personal connection rather than bring John Dutton back into the story.

Kevin Costner’s Departure Changed ‘Yellowstone’

Costner’s exit from Yellowstone became one of the biggest talking points surrounding the show’s final season. The actor’s departure followed reported scheduling conflicts and delays involving the production, alongside his commitment to his Western film project, Horizon: An American Saga.

Costner played the powerful Dutton family patriarch, whose influence shaped much of the series’ drama. His absence left the remaining characters to face the consequences of John Dutton’s fate and find their own paths forward.

Grimes continued the story through Marshals, bringing Kayce into a new chapter of his life as he raises his son, Tate, and works with an elite U.S. Marshals unit in Montana.

For fans hoping to see the former co-stars reunite, Grimes’ latest comments offer little indication that a reunion is on the horizon. Still, his explanation points to busy lives and separate careers rather than any confirmed personal conflict between the actors.

For now, both stars appear to be moving forward with their own projects, while the legacy of Yellowstone continues to keep audiences interested in what might come next.
