According to filmmaker Uwe Boll, he was once in discussions to direct Mr. Brooks, the psychological thriller that ultimately starred Costner under the direction of Bruce A. Evans.

Boll has recalled that producer Randall Emmett approached him about the project after reading the script. Enthusiastic about the opportunity, Boll said he even met with Costner to discuss the film. The actor reportedly responded positively, telling him, “Let’s do this together,” giving Boll hope that he would land one of the biggest projects of his career.

Despite the encouraging meeting, the collaboration never came to fruition. The project ultimately went in another direction, with Bruce A. Evans taking the helm. Released in 2007, Mr. Brooks follows Costner as Earl Brooks, a successful businessman leading a secret double life as a serial killer. The film also stars Demi Moore, William Hurt, and Dane Cook.

Although Mr. Brooks received mixed reviews from critics upon release, Costner’s chilling performance was widely praised and has since earned the film a loyal following among fans of psychological thrillers. Many now consider it one of the actor’s most underrated performances.
