Tom Selleck Clarifies He’s Unlikely to Appear on ‘Boston Blue’ After ‘Blue Bloods’ End

Tom Selleck is putting rumors to rest regarding a possible appearance in Boston Blue, the upcoming police drama many fans assumed would serve as a spiritual continuation of Blue Bloods. After CBS announced the long-running hit series would conclude, speculation quickly grew that Selleck might reprise his iconic role as Frank Reagan in the new project.

However, the actor has made it clear that an appearance is unlikely. According to Selleck, Boston Blue is “its own show with its own identity,” and not a direct extension of the Reagan family story. While he expressed gratitude for the support fans have shown since Blue Bloods debuted in 2010, he emphasized that the series had a natural ending point and that he’s ready to step back from the character.

“It was an incredible run, and I’m proud of what we built,” he said. “But Boston Blue is something new, and I don’t want people to expect Frank Reagan to walk through the door.”

Still, Selleck didn’t completely shut the door on the possibility of a cameo someday, noting that in television, “you never say never.” For now, though, fans should not expect the NYPD’s former commissioner to relocate to Boston anytime soon.
