‘Blue Bloods’ Stars Who’ve Returned in ‘Boston Blue’ — and How Their Characters Came Back
The Blue Bloods universe continues to expand with CBS’ spinoff series Boston Blue, and several familiar faces have already crossed over from the original show — sometimes in surprising ways.
Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan
Unsurprisingly, the biggest crossover is Donnie Wahlberg reprising his iconic role as Danny Reagan. After Blue Bloods ended in December 2024, Wahlberg’s character is the central figure in Boston Blue, relocating from the NYPD to join the Boston Police Department. This transition sets up the new series, as Danny navigates his career in a new city while balancing family responsibilities.
Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan
One of Blue Bloods’ most established characters, Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan, made a guest appearance in the Boston Blue premiere. She returns to help bridge the story from the original series to the spinoff, offering continuity for longtime fans of the Reagan clan. Moynahan is also credited as directing an episode of Boston Blue, deepening her involvement beyond acting.
Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez)
While Boston Blue primarily focuses on Danny’s new life, Maria Baez — played by Blue Bloods alum Marisa Ramirez — has popped up in the spinoff, reconnecting with Danny after their relationship threads from the Blue Bloods finale. Although her appearances so far have been limited, the chemistry between the characters has been a notable part of connecting the two shows’ storylines.
Sean Reagan (Recast)
Danny’s son Sean Reagan appears in Boston Blue as well, but with a twist: the role has been recast. In Blue Bloods, Sean was originally portrayed by Andrew Terraciano, but in the spinoff the character is played by Mika Amonsen. The recasting reflects the new direction Boston Blue is taking for the character, who now serves as a Boston PD patrolman alongside his father.
More Reagan Family Returns Teased
Executive producers have hinted that additional Blue Bloods characters from the Reagan family — including Len Cariou’s Henry Reagan — are set to appear when Season 1 continues. These guest appearances will expand the crossover dynamic and give fans more of the original family threading into the new series.
Who Hasn’t (Yet)
Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan, a cornerstone of Blue Bloods, has not appeared on Boston Blue and the actor has expressed uncertainty about joining the spinoff. While not ruling it out completely, he has indicated he’s unsure if it fits the character’s arc.
