‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff: Mika Amonsen Responds to Controversy Surrounding His Sean Recasting
Mika Amonsen is finally breaking his silence on the wave of mixed reactions that followed his casting as Sean Reagan in the upcoming Blue Bloods spinoff. The young actor, who steps into a role previously portrayed by Andrew Terraciano, says he understands why some longtime fans were initially hesitant about the change—but hopes they’ll give him a chance to prove himself.
“Anytime a character is recast, especially in a universe as beloved as Blue Bloods, people are going to have feelings about it,” Amonsen said in a recent interview. “I totally get that. Sean has grown up on-screen, and viewers feel protective of him. That’s a compliment to the show.”
Amonsen revealed that the creative team was clear from the beginning that the spinoff would take Sean in a new direction, requiring a fresh interpretation. While he’s aware of conversations online, he insists the focus remains on honoring the Reagan family dynamic while exploring new stories.
“I’m not here to replace what came before,” he added. “I’m here to build on it. My hope is that once people see the work, they’ll understand why this decision was made.”
Despite the initial backlash, Amonsen says he’s received an outpouring of support from cast members and crew, many of whom welcomed him with open arms. He emphasizes that the heart of Blue Bloods—family, loyalty, and justice—remains at the core of the spinoff.
“We’re telling stories that matter, and I’m proud to be part of that legacy,” he said.
The Blue Bloods spinoff is currently in production, with Amonsen leading one of the next-generation Reagan storylines. Fans will soon get their first look at his take on Sean when the series premieres.
