Kevin Costner’s ‘Tin Cup’ Sequel Could Finally Be Happening, Says Writer

Nearly three decades after Kevin Costner’s beloved golf comedy Tin Cup hit theaters, fans may finally have a reason to get excited about a potential sequel.

The 1996 film, which starred Costner as Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy, has remained a favorite among sports-movie fans. Now, writer and director Ron Shelton has teased the possibility of returning to the world of the film.

Shelton recently suggested that the idea of a Tin Cup sequel is not completely off the table. While no official project has been announced, his comments have sparked renewed interest in seeing Costner return as the talented but unpredictable golfer.

The original Tin Cup followed McAvoy, a washed-up golf pro whose life changes when he becomes determined to win the U.S. Open and prove himself. Along the way, he also finds himself caught in a complicated romance involving Dr. Molly Griswold, played by Rene Russo.
