“Blue Bloods” to “Boston Blue”: Which Characters Should Make the Jump?
As Blue Bloods comes to a close, fans aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to the world of family, faith, and law enforcement it built over more than a decade. With Boston Blue on the horizon, the big question is whether some familiar faces from New York could (or should) make the move north—and which characters would naturally fit into a new city and a new chapter.
At the top of the list is Danny Reagan. His gritty, instinct-driven approach to police work feels tailor-made for a city like Boston, where history, tight-knit neighborhoods, and complicated street dynamics mirror much of what he faced in New York. A transfer—or even a temporary assignment—could allow Danny to bring continuity to the franchise while exploring how he adapts to a different department culture.
Jamie Reagan is another strong candidate. Having grown steadily from idealistic rookie to thoughtful officer, Jamie’s moral compass and leadership potential could make him a compelling bridge between old and new. A role in training or internal affairs in Boston would let the character evolve while maintaining the ethical backbone fans associate with Blue Bloods.
While Erin Reagan’s legal career is deeply rooted in New York, a special prosecutorial case or advisory role could offer a believable reason for her to appear, especially if Boston Blue leans into courtroom drama alongside police work. Her presence would preserve the show’s balance between law enforcement and the justice system.
Finally, even if Frank Reagan doesn’t physically relocate, his influence could still be felt. A phone call, consultation, or legacy reference would honor the character’s importance while allowing Boston Blue to stand on its own.
Ultimately, Boston Blue doesn’t need to replicate Blue Bloods to succeed—but selectively bringing over a few familiar characters could provide emotional continuity, reward longtime fans, and help the new series find its footing without living in the shadow of its predecessor.
