Tom Selleck Expresses Doubts About ‘Boston Blue’ Cameo After ‘Blue Bloods’ Ends
Following the conclusion of Blue Bloods, fans have been eager to know whether Tom Selleck might appear in the rumored spinoff series Boston Blue. However, the beloved actor has recently expressed uncertainty about stepping into a cameo role, despite his long-standing connection to the franchise.
Selleck, who portrayed NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan for more than a decade, acknowledged the deep bond he formed with the cast, crew, and the show’s audience. Still, he suggested that returning— even briefly— may not be the right move. “It’s complicated,” he explained in a recent interview. “The role meant a great deal to me, and it’s hard to simply drop back into that world without the full context and heart that made it special.”
According to Selleck, part of his hesitation stems from wanting the original series to stand on its own legacy. He noted that Blue Bloods maintained a unique blend of family dynamics and police drama, something not easily duplicated. “You can’t just recreate the Reagan family for a few minutes of screen time,” he said. “It wouldn’t feel honest.”
While he didn’t rule out the possibility entirely, Selleck emphasized that any future involvement would require the right story, the right moment, and a respectful approach to the character he embodied for 14 seasons.
For now, fans may need to wait and see whether Boston Blue can convince its most iconic figure to return— even for a cameo.
